Mrs. Janis Marshall Huckeba.

Janis Marshall Huckeba, 86, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2021 at Cumberland Hills in Aiken, SC. Janis was born on October 15, 1934 to Glenn and Wilma Scroggin Marshall in Franklin, Georgia. She graduated from Centralhatchee High School and later from North Georgia College with a degree in Home Economics in 1956.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lewis Leon Huckeba, son Douglas Huckeba, brother Joel Marshall, very special niece Candi Marshall, and very special nephew Matthew Marshall.

She is survived by sister Jennie Marshall, Franklin, Georgia, daughter Lynne Clarke, Graniteville, SC, daughter Lois Huckeba, Aiken, SC. Three cherished sons who called her “Other Momma” Joshua Recupido (Kimberly), Carrollton, Georgia, Phillip Clarke (Kriston), Graniteville, SC, and Marshall Rowland (Nellie) Graniteville, SC. Adored granddaughters Emila, Elise, Hailey, Riley, Kimber and adored grandson, Jaxon. Special sister-in-law Genia Marshall (John), Tucker, Georgia and nephew, Joey Marshall, Franklin, Georgia.

She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Jackson, South Carolina. She and Leon had been active members in Snow Hill United Methodist Church during the time they lived in Franklin, North Carolina.  Janis attended Grace Covenant Church of God in New Ellenton, SC.

Janis taught school and was one of the first certified special education teachers in Aiken County. Her final years in the classroom were spent Silver Bluff High School. Her Teaching career started at Jackson Elementary and spanned for over 30 years before retiring from the Aiken County School System.

She was blessed to live at Cumberland Hills for the past 14 months where she was compassionately cared for by the staff – especially as COVID limited her outside visitors. As her health declined, she was also cared for by the wonderful staff of Encompass Hospice. Under the care of this great team, her health rallied and she able to again enjoy bingo, crafts, and card games with her Cumberland family.

The family will be forever indebted to the caring staff of Cumberland Hills and Encompass hospice for the loving care they provided.

Janis's ashes will be scattered at Lost Bridge on Highway 28 North of Franklin, NC at 4:00 pm Sat. October 9, 2021.
