Charles Smiley "Charlie" McPherson

June 12, 1929 — October 17, 2021

Aiken, SC—Charles “Charlie” Smiley McPherson entered into rest October 17, 2021 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Charlie was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn Topp McPherson and a son to the late Dwight McPherson and the late Patricia McCleery McPherson. He was born in Memphis, TN on June 12, 1929. Charlie was an avid golfer and member of the Aiken Golf Club. One of his loves was the many wonderful friends he played golf with for many years. You talk about an outstanding chipper and putter, that was Charlie’s forte. His local knowledge of how to play this course for the best outcome will be remembered for years. Charlie worked for many years on major engineering projects throughout the United States and was a member of local Union #469 and #623 of the International Association of Bridge Structural Ornamentation and Reinforcing Iron Workers. Charlie will always be remembered for his positive attitude and infectious laugh, even through having to live through the long term illness of his wife and the death of his 20 year old daughter, who was a majorette at Auburn University, through a car accident. “Uncle Charlie,” as he was affectionately known to all of his remaining family, will always be remembered for all the special events that he was a part of and all of the cards and letters that we received from him. Survivors include: one brother-in-law Jerry Greene, Sr. of Greensboro, NC; one sister-in-law Janice Topp of Brandon, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Topp McPherson, and daughter Patricia Jane McPherson. A memorial service of remembrance for Charlie was held November 8, 2021 at Aiken Golf Club for members and friends. A private family remembrance service will be held at a later date. To honor Charlie’s memory, the extended McPherson family requests donations be made to the Aiken Golf Club, 555 Highland Park Dr SW Aiken, SC 29801, for beautification projects where he spent many happy, wonderful days.
