A celebration of life service for Mr. William Riley Gunter, age 96 will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at South Aiken Church of God with Rev. Bruce Fox, Rev. Stephen Phillips and Rev. Phillip Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville. Mr. Gunter entered into rest Sunday January 22, 2017 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Edna Brown Gunter and the late Mrs.Georgia Hicks Gunter and a son of the late Mr. Pascal Cyrene Gunter and the late Mrs. Hattie Milsap Gunter. Mr. Gunter was a native of Robinsville, NC, and made Aiken County his home for the past 65 years. He came to Aiken due to the construction of the Savannah River Plant in 1951, and retired from E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company at the Savannah River Plant with 30 years of service. After retirement Mr. Gunter did home remodeling through out Aiken County and the state of South Carolina. Mr. Gunter was also Maintenance and Coordinator at the Fermata Club here in Aiken. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army Air Corp., and was a member of Christian Heritage Church in Graniteville and attended South Aiken Church of God in Aiken. Survivors include one son, Dale (Elizabeth) Gunter, Aiken; two daughters, Lillian (Jerry) Land, North Augusta, Darlene Alvanos, North Augusta; ten grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren, and fourteen great great grandchildren. Mr. Gunter was also predeceased by nineteen brothers and sisters. Pallbearers will be Troy Gunter, Russ Hamilton, Jerry Land, Jr., William Meador, Nicholas Alvanos, and Ryan Scott. The family would like to express their appreciation to Day Break Adult Care for all of their help and care of Mr. Gunter.
