Mr. Simon E. “Bill” Jones
Aiken- A celebration of life service for Mr. Simon E. “Bill” Jones age 87 will be held 3:00 pm Friday April 8, 2016 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Brancie Stephens and Rev. Stephen Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Park with Military Honors accorded by the U. S. Army ceremonial team.
Mr. Jones entered into rest Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at his home with his family beside him. He was a native of Washington, NC and had made Aiken his home for the past 63 years. Mr. Jones was the beloved husband of 63 years to Mrs. Hazel O’Barr Jones, and the son of the late Mr. Simon L. Jones and the late Mrs. Clara Parrott Jones. He was a 1947 graduate of Chocowinity High School. Mr. Jones was an insurance agent for Nationwide Insurance Company with 38 years of service. Mr. Jones had his Nationwide Insurance office in Downtown Aiken on Richland Ave. until his retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. Mr. Jones was awarded the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, Combat infantry Badge and a United Nations Service Badge recipient. He was a member of DAV and the VFW in Aiken, the Korean War Veterans Association, and a master Mason with the Aiken Masonic Lodge #156 AFM. Mr. Jones was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class and was a former Deacon. Bill’s favorite past time was enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved South Carolina football, Atlanta Braves baseball, and playing practical jokes. He was a loving Husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Additional survivors include one son, Rev. Steve (Laurie) Jones, Saluda; one daughter, Melony Jones (Lynn) Salley, Aiken; two brothers, Jasper D. (Jo) Jones, Sr., Cocoa, FL, Gene A. (Gail) Jones, Hartwell, GA; three grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Courtney, Lauren Jones, Phillip Jones; and three great grandchildren, Carlie, Jayden, and Ava.
Pallbearers will be Col. Barry Jones, Jason Courtney, Phillip Jones, Joshua Williams, Thomas Adamson, Lynn Salley, and Ronnie Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Class of Bethel Baptist Church.
A visitation with the family will take place 6-8 pm Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Bethel Baptist Church, 1127 Bethel Church Road, Aiken, SC.
