Mr. Robert L. Beck peacefully entered into rest on Friday September 29,2023, at Benton House of Aiken. He was the beloved husband of the late Mrs. Arleen Whitehead Beck for 62 years.

Mr. Beck was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. He started his career in 1953 as a Chemical Lab Technician at Hilton-Davis Chemical Company, a division of Sterling Drug, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Through hard work and perseverance, Mr. Beck rose through the ranks of Hilton-Davis culminating as the Director of Purchasing.

While he was rising through the ranks of Hilton-Davis and raising a family, he completed his BS in Chemistry from University of Cincinnati, taking 13 years of night school to do so. He then went on to earn his Master of Business Administration from Xavier University.

After leaving Hilton-Davis in 1982, Mr. Beck found himself in beautiful Aiken, SC working as a Sourcing Manager for Sandoz Chemical which became Clariant Corporation. He was responsible for sourcing all the raw materials used in production. He held this position until his retirement in 2003.

Mr. Beck was a member of St. Mary’s Help of Christians Catholic Church, where with his wife he had dedicated weekly prayer time in the Adoration Chapel to pray for loved ones and those in need.

Mr. Beck enjoyed growing and sharing roses. At one time he had over 50 rose bushes in his garden. He shared his gift of roses with the Benton House of Aiken community where he lived for the last five years. At Benton House, he spread joy among the staff and residents with his own brand of playfulness and mischief, whistling as he moved around the halls. He also discovered coloring and created many masterpieces that he shared with everyone. Mr. Beck was always a kid at heart.

Surviving Mr. Beck is one brother Bernard Joseph (Linda) Beck, one son, Christopher (Stacey) Beck, Monclova, OH; one daughter, Ellen (Kevin) Gardner, League City, TX; and four grandchildren, Kyle Beck, Caroline (Sean Hackett) Beck, Emily Gardner, and Alexander Gardner. A private service with family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Benton House Team Member Fund at 530 Benton House Way Aiken, SC 29803.
