Mr. Nevin E. Gilbert

Aiken, SC—Entered into rest peacefully Sunday April 23, 2017 at his residence with his family at his side, Mr. Nevin E. Gilbert, age 85.  He was the husband of Mrs. Janet Smith Gilbert and a son of the late Mr. Roy Gilbert and the late Mrs. Kathryn Zimmerman Gilbert.  Mr. Gilbert was a native of Johnstown, PA and had made Aiken County his home for the past 11 years.  He had retired  in 2007 as a self employed Hoteleir.  Mr. Gilbert also owned, operator of  the Gilbert Horse Stables in the Bedford, PA area where he trained and was a standard bred driver of Horses.  Mr. Gilbert was a former member of the Bedford Chamber of Commerce, the Bedford Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow.  Mr. Gilbert was a founding member of the famous Fall Foliage Festival in Bedford County, PA and a former member of the CHA Hotel Association, the USTA Horse Association, a past president of SCB Visitors Bureau in Bedford as well.  In Aiken Mr. Gilbert was a trainer at the McGhee Training Center Mile Track on Banks Mill Road, Aiken, SC. Mr. Gilbert was a member of St. Pau's Lutheran Church, Aiken, SC.   Additional survivors include one son, Glen (Linda) Gilbert, Shawano, WI; one daughter, Gretchen (David) Gobris, Wilmington, DE; one sister, Susan Peters, New York; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  Mr. Gilbert was predeceased by one son, Thomas Kyle Gilbert, one daughter, Amy Gilbert and one sister, Shelby Williams.  Services and burial will take place at a later date.  COLE FUNERAL HOME 1544 UNIVERSITY PARKWAY (118 BY PASS) AIKEN, SC, 29801. 803-648-7175.
