Mrs. Myrtis Twiggs Blakely

Aiken, SC—Mrs. Myrtis Twiggs Blakely, age 89, entered into rest on Friday February 24, 2023, at Edgefield Post Acute. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday March 3, 2023 at Jessamine Cemetery with Robert L. Tucker officiating. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Whiskey Road with Mr. Michael Scarboro officiating. Mrs. Blakely was a native of Windsor, SC, but was a lifelong resident of Aiken. She was the beloved wife of the late Mr. Willie Blakely and a daughter to the late Mr. Nelson Twiggs and the late Mrs. Lillie Mae Mays Twiggs. Mrs. Blakely was a Jehovah’s Witness and a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall Central Congregation on Whiskey Rd. At the Kingdom Hall, she was known as Granny to many. She was even a part of the Foster Grandparent Program. She was baptized in 1967, and enjoyed going to many conventions. Mrs. Blakely loved children, her family, and making people happy. She was known as being hospitable. She enjoyed cooking real southern food. One of her favorite things to do was go on vacation with her children to Myrtle Beach. She will be missed by friends and family alike. Survivors include: four daughters Cora (McArthur) Clements, Eatonton, GA, Judy (Robert) Tucker, Union, SC, Janet (Nelson)Nwachukwu, Aiken, SC, and Debra (Russell) Pough, Johnston, SC; one daughter-in-law Tammy Blakely, Aiken, SC; brother Jeremiah Twiggs, Modesto, CA; two Sisters Elease (William) Jackson, Palm Coast, FL, and Thelma Washington, Aiken, SC; nine grandchildren Brandon Tucker, Orion (Erin) Jeter, Misharri Clements, Phillip (Nicole) Pough, Brittany (Lonnell) Rice, Lachandra (Michael) B. Gibson, Jocelyn (Bradley) P. Lowman, Jasmine (Nathan) B. Kean, and Jaria Blakely; nine great grandchildren Skylar Tucker, Sasha Pough, Brayden Lowman, Kylan Jeter, Brysen Lowman, Brooklynn Rice, Jailah Lowman, Lathan Jeter, and Kinslee Rice; and three honorable grandchildren AC Daniel, Micah Lewis, and Aaron Reed. Mrs. Blakely was preceded in death by: her son Melvin Eric Blakely; three brothers Earnest, Herman, and Luther Twiggs; and four sisters Ethel Dawson, Elsa Hughes, Iva Adams, and Grace Cummings. The family will be receiving visitors from 4-7 PM Thursday, March 2, 2023 at COLE FUNERAL HOME 1544 UNIVERSITY PKWY (118 BYPASS) AIKEN, SC 29801 803-648-7175 with public viewing beginning at 1:00 pm.
