Mrs. Mary Kate McCoy Smith
Aiken—A celebration of life service for Mrs. Mary Kate McCoy Smith age 87 will be held 2:00 pm Friday, February 6, 2015 at St. Johns United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Litts officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville.
Mrs. Smith was the beloved wife of the late Mr. Jack Alexander Smith and the daughter of the late Mr. James Thomas McCoy, and the late Mrs. Leona Phifer McCoy. She was a native of Booneville, Mississippi and made Aiken her home for the past 47 years. Mrs. Smith was an active member of St. Johns United Methodist Church where she was a member of the UMC Society, Circle #10 and the Katie Williams Sunday School Class. Mrs. Smith enjoyed traveling, arts and crafts and her church activities.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy (Mark) Pitts, Aiken, SC; two grandchildren, Alex (Lindsey) Pitts, West Columbia, Holley Pitts, Louisville, KY; and great granddaughter, Eliza Maxwell Pitts. In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Smith was predeceased by two brothers, Earl McCoy of Hueytown, AL and Shields McCoy of Phoenix, AZ, and her precious dog Ollie.
The family would like to express gratitude of thanks to Trinity Hospice for the compassionate care that was given so Mrs. Smith was able to stay in her home as she wished. Also, the family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Michael Shlaer and his staff for the exceptional treatment provided to Mrs. Smith.
