Mrs. Marilyn Louise Rowell Cater

Aiken, SC—A celebration of life service honoring Mrs. Marilyn Louise Rowell Cater age 90 will be held 11:30 am Friday, June 12, 2015 at the Essex Resort and Spa, Essex Junction, Vermont. A private interment will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Cater was a born in Hardwick, Vermont on January 17, 1925 and a former resident of Essex Junction, Vermont. She had made Aiken, SC her home for the past three and a half years.  Mrs. Cater was the wife of 62 years to the late Colonel Roland Cater U.S. Air Force retired, and a daughter of the late Mr. Lynn Rowell and the late Mrs. Sara Robbins Rowell. She was a graduate of Hinesburg High School in 1942, and attended the University of Vermont and the Wilson School in Boston, Massachusetts earning an Associate’s degree in Laboratory and X-ray Technology in 1944. Mrs. Cater loved traveling, gardening, music and entertaining family and friends.  She was a self-proclaimed Old Vermonter, she always had optimism, determination, and a sense of humor.  In retirement, she delighted in her role as “Nana” and “Grammie”, and traveled the country extensively with her husband in their RV, following the PGA tour and making new friends from all over the world.  After the death of her husband, Mrs. Cater moved to Aiken, SC where she continued to enjoy concerts, ice cream and long rides in the country.  She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Essex Junction, Vermont.

Survivors include one son, Frank (Robin) Cater, Milton, Vermont; three daughters, Jean Cater, Essex Junction, Vermont, Susan (Tom) Lefebvre, Sarasota, Florida,  Anne Cater, Aiken, SC; a daughter-in-law, Susan Cater, Essex Junction, Vermont; five grandchildren, Andrea Cater, Sara Gough, Sean, Erin, and Jack Cater; two great grandchildren, Emma Cater, and Tristan Gough.  Mrs. Cater was also predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Reed Prescott.
