Mr. James Lewis Hiers

Aiken, SC—A celebration of life service for Mr. James Lewis Hiers age 93 will be held 2:00 pm Monday September 12, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Brancie Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in Vaucluse Cemetery. Mr. Hiers was a native of Barnwell, SC and had made Aiken County his home for the past 79 years. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Christine Duncan Hiers and the first born son of the late Mr. Willie Ervin Hiers and the Late Mrs. Irene Grubbs Hiers. Mr. Hiers was employed at Bath Mill as a loom fixer for 20 years then went to Owens Corning Fiberglass with 25 years of service in maintenance retiring in 1989.  He enjoyed fishing and putting on fish fry’s, going to church, gardening and sharing his vegetables with everyone. Mr. Hiers was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, Aiken. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Johnson, Aiken, Pamela (Carl) Smith, Aiken; seven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.  Mr. Hiers was predeceased by one son, Rodney Hiers, two brothers,  John, Lee Allen Hiers, four sisters, Ila Mae Ritchie, Dorothy Hiers, Sarah Wood, Peggy Youngblood. Pallbearers will be Keith Wood, Angela Farrell, Eric Johnson, Eric Johnson, Doug Johnson, Eli Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Sr. Adult Sunday School Class of Bethel Baptist Church.  In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 1127 Bethel Church Road, Aiken, SC, 29801. A visitation with the family will take place 6-8 pm Sunday September 11, 2022 at Cole Funeral Home.  The services will livestreamed on the Cole Funeral Home Facebook page.
