Mr. Harry Calhoun Spires, Jr.
Aiken—Entered into rest Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, Mr. Harry Calhoun Spires, Jr., age 73, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Matina Rigas Spires and son of the late Mr. Harry Calhoun Spires, Sr. and the late Mrs. Margaret Seigler Spires.
A celebration of life service will be held 4:30 pm Friday, March 28, 2014 at Cole Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Fred W. Andrea III officiating. Interment will be private.
Mr. Spires was a native and a life long resident of Aiken County. He started his career with the Aiken Standard and Review in 1955 when it was located downtown on Richland Avenue, and continued as a pressman with Aiken Standard in its current location on Rutland Drive untill 1972. Mr. Spires went into commercial printing in 1972 and was associated with The Letter Shop, Fascopy Printing and retired as a Master Pressman with Innovative Solutions in 2007. He was a member of Midland Valley Country Club and Aiken Golf Club. Besides being an avid golfer, Mr. Spires also enjoyed fishing and participated in numerous Bass Tournaments. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Aiken.
Survivors include one son-George Spires, Aiken; one daughter-Lia Featherstone (Stephen Davis), Aiken; three grandchildren- Courtnie (James Wesley) Lee, Jessica Spires, Jeff (Jessica) Bacon; seven great grandchildren- Mia, Holley, Jake, Morenci, Elli, Hunter, and Forrest.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Crawford, Stephen Davis, William R. Featherstone, Ken Keaton, Morris Rudnick, Lyle Tyler, Joe Tyler, Andy Watford, Jeff Wolf, and Jim Yascavage.
