Aiken, SC—A celebration of life service for Mr. Gerard D. Gartung, age 66, will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.  at Memorial Baptist Church, Vaucluse Road, Aiken, SC with Chaplain Dexter Lambert officiating.  He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Janet Lynn Gartung.  Mr. Gartung was born in Witchita, Kansas, but had made Aiken his home since 1974.  He was the son of Mr. Louis Gartung and Mrs. Shirley Lawrence Gartung.  Mr. Gartung graduated from Aiken High School in 1974.  Prior to his senior year at Aiken High School, he attended Hutchinson High School in Hutchinson, Kansas, with a major in technical education and minor in academic education.  He then attended one semester at the University of South Carolina Aiken, and then continued studies and courses at the Aiken Technical College.  Mr. Gerard Delwyn Gartung was a night watchman and caretaker at the Bogeyville Golf course, for three years, where he also was greens keeper, maintenance supervisor, maintenance mechanic, carpenter, and acting club house manager when necessary. Mr. Gartung worked at Aiken Regional Medical Center from 1992-2019, where he was a nurse tech in the PACU, unit clerk, and transport aid.  He also worked as an OR Tech and a Recovery Tech for 27 years at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.  Mr. Gerard Delwyn Gartung loved fishing, hunting, boating, and loved going to Clark’s Hill.
