Mr. Gerald M.  Arey

Aiken SC—Gerald M. Arey, 89, died February 17, 2014 in Aiken, SC.  He was born in Berwick, PA in 1924, son of the late  Nathan Arey and Margaret J. Arey. “Ish” is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jane V. Arey, daughter Margaret Jane (Jay W.) Chapin, grandson Dr. Russell William (Erica) Chapin of Charleston, granddaughter Dr. Ellen Jane (Dr. Bradford) Moore of Richmond VA and great-grandchildren William T. Chapin and Kathryn Jane Moore.  Mr. Arey’s surviving sisters are Margaret A. Stephens of Berwick, PA and Madge Wright of Coatesville, PA.

He was a WWII Army combat veteran serving in France and Germany.  He graduated from Penn State University in 1950 with a degree in engineering and most of his working career was spent in industrial metallurgy.  Ish lived for days in the field hunting behind his English setters and spent many hours pursuing his photography hobby.  Mr. Arey was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Penn State Alumni Association and the NRA.

After retiring to Aiken in 1990, he cherished spending time with  his grandchildren, was extremely proud of them and loved his family deeply.  His cremains will be interred privately in First Presbyterian Church columbarium, Aiken,  and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Berwick PA.
