Mrs. Eleanor Ruth Armstrong

Aiken, SC—Mrs. Eleanor Ruth Armstrong, 85, entered into rest peacefully at her residence, following a prolonged illness on Sunday July 5, 2026. She was born in West Union, WV, on July 4, 1941, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Homer and Bertha Hileman. She was preceded in death by: two sisters, Winona Lipscomb of Salme, WV, and Betty Law of Akron, OH; and by three brothers, Homer Hileman Jr. of Tewksbury, MA, Frank Hileman of Clarksburg, WV, and Hayward Hileman of Aiken, SC. She completed high school in West Union and immediately accepted a secretarial position with Government Services Administration of the US Federal Government in Washington DC, where she resided for several years. She was later employed by Firestone Tire in Akron, OH. She leaves her husband of 62 years, Don Armstrong of Aiken, SC, daughter Kimberly (Ernest) Ann Steele of Edgefield, SC, and grandson Zachary (Ashley) Hunter Steele of North Augusta, SC. Eleanor has lived in Aiken, SC for the last 34 years and previously in Washington DC; Akron, OH; Gaithersburg, MD; and Augusta, GA. She is a member of Town Creek Baptist Church of Aiken.

Her earthly body will be cremated at Cole Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Aiken, SC. There will be no visitation or memorial service according to her wishes. Her family will retain her remains. Those wishing to do so may leave a testimonial at www.colefuneralhomeinc.net or legacy.com.

Eleanor was a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and will be deeply missed.
