Mrs. Betty Hughes Voigt

Aiken, A vigil for Mrs. Betty Hughes Voigt age 79 will be held 1:00 pm Thursday June 22, 2017 at Cole Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeffrey Kendall celebrant.  Interment will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery.  Mrs. Voigt was the wife of Mr. Robert "Bob" Voigt, Aiken, and a daughter of the late Mr. Henry Hughes and the late Mrs. Mary Ann McAlhanny Hughes. She was a native of Walterboro, SC and had made Aiken County her home for the past 50 years.  Mrs. Voigt  was the owner and operator of Continental Beauty Salon in Aiken and  was a beautician for the former Aiken Nursing Home for 5 years.  Mrs. Voigt retired as a receiver in shipping at Wal-Mart after 10 years of service. Mrs. Voigt was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken.  Additional survivors include two sons, Joseph Arthur (Jan) Voigt, Aiken, Wade Scott (Renee') Voigt, Aiken; three daughters, Kathy (Bruce) Blackmon, Aiken, Dee Jones, Aiken, Loretta (Gordon) McVey, Aiken; one daughter in law, Mrs. Tammy Voigt, Warrenville;  one brother, Ernest Hughes, Walterboro; four sisters, Mary Lou Bazzell, Summerville, Martha Hughes, Elloree, Clara Dobson, Louray, Shirley Smith, Branchville; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  Mrs. Voigt was predeceased by one son, Robert Paul "Bobby" Voigt, Jr.; six brothers, Jim, Henry, Charles, Wendell, Jack, Clinton Hughes.  In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN, 38101-9908.
