Mr, Alvin Arthur Rollins

Graniteville, SC--A celebration of life service for Mr. Alvin Arthur Rollins age 87 will take place 3:00 pm Monday January 14, 2019 at Cole Funeral  Home Chapel with Pastor Todd Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Park with  military honors accorded by the U.S. Marine Corps ceremonial team.  Mr. Rollins entered into rest peacefully Thursday January 10, 2019 at Anchor Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Aiken surrounded by his family.  He was a native and a life long resident of Aiken County and was the beloved husband of 65 years to Mrs. Ida Lee Redd Rollins, Graniteville and a son of the late Mr. Arthur Rollins and the late Mrs. Lillian Johnson Rollins.  Alvin was a person of sterling character, a reliable and trustworthy businessman, a solid citizen.  He married his childhood sweetheart, Ida Lee Redd Rollins, on August 2, 1953. He was veteran of the United States Marine Corp. and proudly served during the Korean Conflict. Alvin was awarded the Purple Heart after receiving severe wounds from shrapnel much of which he carried in his legs the rest of his life. He was employed by his cousin Carl and uncle Monroe Johnson's Gulf Station for many years and continued the business after their deaths as Rollins Gulf Station. Both men had a tremendous influence in his life.  For several years prior to his retirement, he owned and operated an auto repair shop in Couchton.  After his retirement, he fulfilled a dream when he and his wife purchased their current residence in Graniteville. It was there he was able to enjoy his many farm animals, fishing in their ponds and small-scale farming, happily sharing the yields of his efforts with family and friends. It was only in the last year he was unable to plant and cultivate his usual huge garden, where he and his precious dog Roscoe spent many hours of harmony with God and nature.  He loved nothing better than being surrounded by his family. Alvin will always be remembered not only as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, but a down-to-earth and hard-working generous man who stood as an example to a multitude of friends and family. Additional survivors include one daughter, Katherine "Kathy" Rollins Wright, Graniteville; Grandson, Jason (Jennifer) Wright, granddaughters, Shannon (Chris) Wright Page, Victoria Rollins (Dalton) Heath; Great grandchildren, Jackson Wright, Jamisen Wright, Jace Wright, Katherine Page and Cash Page of Graniteville and Trayton Heath of Mena, Arkansas; sisters, Marie L. (Charles) Heath and Betty R. Busch both of Couchton; Brothers-in-law, Alfred Cooper and Ralph T. Moore; and a huge number of loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Randy Lee Rollins; sisters, Corinna "Snookie"Golding, Ruth E. Cooper, Celia Ann Moore, and a brother, Calvin Rollins. To the staffs of Anchor Rehabilitation Center and Palladium Hospice, the family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude for the phenomenal love and care our loved one received during his last weeks. Words seem trivial, but your extraordinary care and compassion allowed him to make his transition in peace and with dignity. We will never forget the kindness and support extended to each member of his family during this difficult time. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Wright, Jackson Wright, Chris Page, Dalton Heath, Tim Wright, Scott Heath, Craig Heath, and Chris Busch.
