Allen Guss Sturkie

New Holland, SC—A celebration of life service for Mr. Allen Guss Sturkie, age 84, will be held 3:00 pm on Sunday August 24, 2025, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Clint Bartlett and Pastor Virgil Parsons officiating. Interment will follow at the New Holland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eric Sturkie, Matthew Sturkie, Michael Sturkie, Drew Murphy Jeffrey Padgett, Chase Sturkie, and Clayton Sturkie. Mr. Sturkie entered into rest on Wednesday August 20, 2025, at Lexington Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of many years to Mrs. Betty “Mozelle” Matthews Sturkie and a son to the late Mr. Allen Christopher Gus Sturkie and the late Mrs. Cleo Gunner Sturkie. He was a native of Aiken, SC, and a lifelong resident of the Aiken/Wagener area. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Levels Baptist Church. Mr. Sturkie worked for the Graniteville Company as a manager, retiring in 2004 after 44 years of service. His hobbies included fishing, traveling, gardening, and going to Gospel singings. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, hosting many family events. He will be deeply missed. Additional survivors include: three sons Mark (Marie) A. Sturkie, Wagener, Derrick Sturkie, Wagener, and Chris (Paula) Sturkie, Wagener; one brother Larry Sturkie, Aiken; two sisters Marie Smith, Aiken, and Ann Shumpert, Congaree; five grandchildren Matthew Sturkie, Michael Sturkie, Emily Murphy, Eric Sturkie, and Kasci Padgett; twelve great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Mr. Sturkie was also predeceased by three sisters, Gussie Mae Arban, Sara Brasher, and Brenda Holtzclaw.  A visitation with the family will take place one hour prior to service at COLE FUNERAL HOME 1544 UNIVERSITY PKWY (118 BYPASS) AIKEN, SC 29801 803-648-7175.
