Aubrey Darnell Ashley, Sr.

Aiken, SC--A celebration of life service for Mr. Aubrey Darnell Ashley, Sr. age 60 will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday August 22, 2018 at Mercy Church with Pastor Kenny Murphy, Pastor Tod Wilson, Pastor Don Seeders, and Pastor Brian Yaun officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery  with Pastor Jamie Hammons officiating.  Darnell entered into rest Friday August 17, 2018 at University Hospital, Augusta peacefully surrounded by his wife and family after a long and hard fought battle with  cancer.  Darnell was  the beloved husband of 26 years to Debra Merriett Ashley, Aiken and the son of Mrs. Annie Lou Black Ashley, Langley and the late Mr. Carlton Ashley. He was a native and a life long resident of Aiken County, and retired in 2018 with Halo Carbon Products Inc as a Maintenance Technician with 25 years of service.  Darnell was an active member of Mercy Church where for many years helped in maintaining the church buildings and was also the one who organized and trained the staff for the safety program at Mercy Church.   Additional survivors include four sons, Joshua (Dawn) Ashley, North Augusta, Allen (Nicole) Mattison, Conway, Aubrey (Diane) Ashley, Jr., Conway, and Matthew (Tabitha) Ashley, Aiken; four brothers, Carldean Ashley, North Augusta, G.W. Ashley, North Augusta, Kieth Ashley, Cummings, GA, and Brian Yaun, Chattanooga, Tennessee; three sisters, Marsha Webb, Clearwater, Arlean Ashley, Warrenville, and Sheron Lawson, Aiken; thirteen grandchildren.  Pallbearers will be Brian Barron, Wayne Derrick, Rich Clark, Micah Clark, Bill Whitmire, and Lawrence Muns. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jon Cook, and Ken Holland.  In Lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Mercy Church, 2700 Whiskey Road, Aiken, SC ,29801 or to Hope Ministries of the Valley Inc., P.O. Box 550 Langley, SC 29834.  The family would like to express a gratitude of thanks to BMT Nursing Staff, A U Health, Cancer Center of GA, The University Medical Oncology Doctors and Staff, 10 west and ICU Nursing Staff of University Hospital for all of your love and compassionate care you gave Darnell, myself and to all of our family during this  trying time.  The family will be receiving friends 6-9 pm Tuesday August 21, 2018 at Mercy Church.
